Friends of Bedfordshire Youth Music was established in 1971 to support young musicians across the county. The charity collaborates with local organisations including the Bedfordshire Music Trust, Saturday morning music centres, and other independent music charities to help promote and sustain children's musical opportunities, such as children's choirs, youth orchestras and junior bands. FBYM offers bursaries to assist parents to cover the cost of music courses, as well as grants to charities to assist in the cost of musical events.
