New in Volunteer Roles

The following volunteering opportunities were added to the CVS Simply Connect platform during May 2025

Bedford and District Gardeners Association

Customer Service / Warehouse

In this role, you will be serving customers with gardening products while working as part of a team to provide excellent customer service. Your duties will include advising customers about products, bringing heavy items such as bags of compost to customers’ cars, and keeping the warehouse clean and tidy.

Till Operator

As a volunteer in the Trading Shed, you’ll play a key role in creating a welcoming and positive experience for customers by greeting visitors, providing helpful product information, and assisting with purchases using the till and card payment machine. You’ll work closely with the warehouse team to help keep shelves stocked and organised, check the membership register, and support the smooth day-to-day running of the space.

 

Brickhill Scout Group

Volunteer Scout leader MK43 

We have a number of roles with Scout groups in the MK43 / MK44 postcode areas. Harold, Turvey, Sharnbrook, Oakley. Scouts create opportunities for young people. Beavers(age6-8), Cubs(8-10), Scouts(10-14), & Explorers(14-18). From crafts & cooking to canoeing & camping young people get to develop skills for life.

 

CPRE Bedfordshire - The Countryside Charity

Volunteer content writer 

Website and social media content writer for news items and features. Use your skills to help our charity and make a positive difference to the countryside Meet like-minded people and enjoy being part of a team Enhance your CV by developing new skills and gaining valuable experience

 

East of England Community Health and Care NHS Trust

 NHS - Newborn Hearing Screening Volunteer

Our Newborn Hearing Screening Service screens infants in the first four weeks of life to ensure early detection of mild, moderate, severe and profound permanent childhood hearing impairment. This is a national screening programme which aims to find out about any issues early so we can give children a better chance to develop their language, speech, and communication skills.

 

Emmaus Village Carlton

Gift Aid Support 

The role will involve welcoming customers as they arrive, asking whether they are signed up for Gift Aid, and helping new customers register if they would like to. You’ll guide customers to the correct parking area, meet them at their vehicle, and assist them in entering their details onto the computer system.


HopeWorks

Refugee & Migrant Services Befriender

The Refugee & Migrant Services was developed in 2015 in response to the conflict in Syria and consequent refugee crisis. Since then, the R&MS Team has helped over 80 refugee families integrate into Bedfordshire, providing them with accommodation and holistic, trauma informed support.

Volunteer Accommodation Befriender

The Supported Accommodation Service offers housing, a high level of autonomy and independence, and tenancy support for a wide variety of people who have experienced homelessness and are moving toward independent living. The Volunteer Befriender will be matched with a client from the Accommodation Team and will help the team support the client.

Community Threads Volunteer

The Refugee & Migrant Service (R&MS) comprises of two teams who work in collaboration with one another to provide holistic support for individuals resettled to the U.K. Since 2015, the team has helped 600+ men, women, and children build a life in the U.K. Many of the families have a history of making or altering their own clothes and Community Threads is a sewing club within R&MS for women who want to learn English, sew, and build community.

Volunteer English Language Club Table Facilitator

The facilitator will work closely with and report back to the ESOL Tutors and ESOL Team Manager, assist with setting up and packing away the classroom before and after each lesson, promptly inform the class tutor if unable to attend a lesson, and report any incidents, health and safety issues, or safeguarding concerns to the class tutor.

Volunteer Pathways Assistant

HopeWorks charity was started over 30 years ago under the name King’s Arms Project, as a response to seeing people sleeping rough on the streets of Bedford. The organisation tackles homelessness, displacement, and isolation in Bedford borough, central beds and beyond.

Penrose Social Interest Group

Digital Inclusion Volunteer

Our ICT team is looking for a volunteer to run new digital inclusion workshops for residents and participants. Many people we support struggle with IT access, which makes everyday tasks like paying bills, applying for jobs, or filling in forms really challenging. These workshops will make a big difference to them!

Community Buddy

We are looking for friendly and enthusiastic volunteers to help our members feel connected and confident in attending their local green activities. You'll help them to access nature-based activities, make a plan to get started and go along with them if they would like some company.


Sue Ryder St John's Hospice

One off Fundraising volunteer 

As a ‘one off’ volunteer, you’ll work alongside other Sue Ryder staff and Volunteers at a fundraising event or activity in your local community. You’ll be helping raise vital funds that allow Sue Ryder to provide care to people when they need it most.

Volunteer Driver   

As a Volunteer Driver, you will provide support to the site team by collecting food donations from local retailers. Responsibilities in this role include ensuring that your vehicle is safe and properly insured, keeping accurate records of car maintenance and mileage, travelling to local retailers to collect food donations, and supporting hospice catering staff with sorting through the donated produce.

The Owen Smith Charitable Trust

Programme Producer              

You will design a plan with varied activities for all ages or specifically for a targeted group (children, young people, older adults, etc.), gather materials needed, manage a group of participants, follow-up for feedback to improve future programmes.

Countryside Worker/Gardener   

You will learn about the rewilding process and how to provide a habitat for wildlife. No experience necessary as full training will be given. Volunteering is a great way of gaining confidence, improving health and fitness, meeting new people and making new friends.
