Volunteer Now! Bedfordshire Cloth Nappy Library

13 April 2026

Bedfordshire Cloth Nappy Library

At the Bedfordshire Cloth Nappy Library, we're on a mission to make reusable nappies accessible to every family in Bedfordshire. But why choose reusable nappies?

  • Eco-Friendly: Disposable nappies contribute to landfill waste. Reusables help reduce this significantly, making a big difference for our planet.
  • Healthier for Babies: Reusable nappies are free from the harsh chemicals found in some disposables, providing a gentler option for your little one's delicate skin.
  • Cost-Effective: Families can save a fortune by using reusable nappies. While the upfront cost might seem higher, the long-term savings are substantial.

With so many types and brands to choose from, it can be overwhelming. That’s where we come in!

Our Nappy Kits

We offer two types of nappy kit hires to suit your needs:

Newborn Kit

  • What’s Included: A range of different cloth nappies in the smallest size.
  • Duration: A longer-term loan of 3 months.
  • Benefit: Allows you to have your baby in cloth nappies until they are big enough to fit into Birth-To-Potty (BTP) nappies, which start around 10 lbs.

Birth-To-Potty (BTP) Kit

  • What’s Included: A range of cloth nappies that are currently available to buy or can be easily purchased through the second-hand market.
  • Duration: A shorter loan of 4 weeks.
  • Benefit: Allows you to try different types and shapes to decide what works best for you before you buy your own nappies.

We also provide all the necessary accessories to go with the nappies!

How It Works

By offering these kits for a small fee and a returnable deposit, we make it possible for families to use reusable nappies from birth without having to buy newborn-sized nappies. Our BTP kits allow families to try before they buy, ensuring they know exactly what to purchase without wasting money on types they don’t get on with.

Join Our Team: Become a Nappy Kit Host!

The library is currently run by six dedicated volunteers spread across Bedfordshire. One of our volunteers said: “Being part of the BCNL team is great, the time commitment is minimal and it just requires a bit of space in my spare room for the kit. It’s lovely to know I am helping families make the switch to reusable nappies, and helping the planet by reducing the number of disposable nappies thrown away each day. Being able to answer questions and support families with any issues is really nice too.”

However, we are looking for new volunteers to support our existing team with hosting nappy kits. By becoming a host, you'll be playing a vital role in reducing waste and promoting sustainability in our community.

What’s Involved?

  • Hosting a Nappy Kit: This involves storing and caring for a set of reusable nappies and accessories. Hosts usually host 2 kits, but hosting 1 would also be a great help.
  • Supporting Families: You'll be helping local parents make the switch to reusable nappies, saving them money and the environment.
  • Spreading Awareness: Share the benefits of reusable nappies and inspire others to join the green revolution!

We are looking for hosts in or near Leighton Buzzard, Flitwick, Bedford, and Biggleswade to support our existing team.  No experience is necessary – we'll provide all the information and support you need. All you need is a little space in your home and a big heart for the environment and your local community.

Ready to Make a Difference?

If you're passionate about sustainability and want to make a positive impact in your community, we'd love to hear from you! Join us in promoting a greener, healthier future for our little ones.
