Embrace (formerly Bedford District Cerebral Palsy Society)

31 May 2024

We are very excited to share with you all, our brand-new name and logo! Embrace (formerly Bedford District Cerebral Palsy Society); are a small charity based in Bedfordshire, who have been established since 1954. We started the process of a rebrand last May, where we used the expertise of Natalie Murray, from The Edge Brands to guide us on our journey to a new name and logo. We had met Natalie at the Bedford Business Expo in 2023 and we had been wanting to make this change for many years but we did not want to use the charity money to do this. So last year, we managed to secure some funding to make the change, as it was important that our name reflected what we do and what we are truly about. One of the most frequently asked questions about BDCPS was ‘what does that mean?’ and when expanding on this it just left many people feeling like they weren’t able to use our services.

Paul Lockyer, Chair of Embrace explains “The most important thing for us as a charity, is our ability to engage with our community – the families, young people and of course those who support us and help fund and deliver our services. Our new brand is a much more modern way of engaging and interacting with that community. It will help us celebrate and reach a broader audience”.

In Easter we had a ‘rebrand reveal’ event for all our service users, to reveal our brand new name and logo! It was met with a huge amount of positivity and our service users shared in our love of the rebrand.

Our mission is to provide unwavering support to families living with disabilities, sharing our knowledge and understanding to empower each individual we encounter along their unique journey.

We empower lives through adaptable and inclusive support, championing individual needs, enabling autonomy within a responsive and nurturing environment and ensuring no family member is left behind. Inclusivity is not just a value but a guiding principle; we ensure that every family member, regardless of their circumstances, feels valued and embraced within our support network.

Embrace, run activity schemes in the school holidays for young people with disabilities, as well as monthly clubs from birth to adulthood. We have also expanded our family and wellbeing activities over the past few years, where many parent carers can join and find some time to relax, unwind and meet other families in similar situations. We have our Skool’s Out summer activity scheme coming up in July/August and we do require plenty of experienced staff as well as volunteers to help run our services. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to do the fabulous things we do!

2024 is a special year as it is our 70th year of running, so, it seemed like the perfect time to embark on the rebranding process! As well as the rebrand, we have a year filled with exciting fundraising events, including a Platinum Ball in October. Our goal is to fundraise £70,000 this year.

Please find our website and social media: embrace.org.uk to keep up to date with everything that we have going on, to find out about our services and to get involved.
