Join the fun of Scouting
What do Scouts do?
Scouts are do-ers and give-it-a-go-ers. Yes, we go camping, hiking, swimming, abseiling, cycling and canoeing. But we also get to hang out with our friends every week – having fun, playing games, working in a team and taking on new challenges.
Every week we give almost half a million 4-25 year olds the skills they need for school, college, university, the job interview, the important speech, the tricky challenge and the big dreams: the skills they need for life.
One local group currently looking for adult volunteers is Blenheim Scout Group, based in the LU3 area of Luton. Their beavers and cubs meet on Thursdays during term time from 6-8pm. They are boys and girls aged 6-10 years old and would love you to come along and help them enjoy fun and adventure while developing their confidence and learning new skills for life.
Volunteering is easier than you think, you will be offered full support and training and leaders will be happy to answer any questions that you may have. Volunteer Saroj said:
“I really look forward to seeing the children each week, and the feedback that I’ve had from parents is amazing. It makes me feel that I’m giving something back to my local community.”
If you think you could you help Blenheim beavers and cubs play games, learn new skills, try new things, have fun, go on adventures and outings, make friends, help others, go camping, learn about the outdoors, gain badges and create things then please contact Kathy on 07903 120216 for more information.
Scouting and guiding opportunities are perfect if you want to:
- Support young people on a regular basis and see them grow
- Get stuck into adventurous (and often messy!) activities
- Have a rewarding role where you'll develop great relationships with young people and volunteers
We have listed below, the volunteering vacancies that are currently on our Simply Connect Platform. You can click through any of the highlighted opportunities to get a full description of the role and register your interest. Administration Roles
District Chair, Biggleswade District Scouts
Scouting relies on strong leadership. So, if you can motivate others, keep a cool head and balance a variety of views then you would be an ideal chairperson for Biggleswade Scouts. With experience of steering meetings to produce excellent decisions, you’ll be equally willing to speak your mind as encouraging others to express their views
District Secretary, Biggleswade District Scouts
We’re only able to help young people step up, play their part and gain great skills when our organisations are well managed and run. A District Secretary is absolutely essential to this, which is why, as one of our trustees, you will be responsible, supportive and have our best interest at heart at all times.
Our current Girlguiding Opportunities in Bedfordshire
The Group Helper Roles:
At the heart of guiding are the unit meetings that girls go along to each week. Volunteering at unit meetings means getting messy, meeting new people and running activities that help girls discover their potential and build their confidence. Lots of new volunteers start out as a helper at a weekly unit meeting. You’ll work alongside other volunteers to give girls fun, friendship, challenge and adventure. There's no responsibility for planning in this role but you'll be the extra pair of hands needed to make unit meetings happen Unit meetings are usually an hour and a half once a week, during term time.
The Group Leader/Assitant Leader Roles:
The role would suit someone who has or would like to gain experience of volunteering with young people while developing their administrative skills. Being a Youth Leader is one of the key roles that support girls and young women to experience how great Girlguiding can be.
