Show you care: Refugees
If you are interested in helping out people in your own community who are refugees or asylum seekers, take a look at the opportunities we currently have listed on our Simply Connect Volunteering Platform.
This is one of a series of posts on different ways to show that you care for others in your community.
Beyond detention
Arabic speaking male volunteers
The IRC has recently changed from detaining women, to detaining men and so to support our work we need more male volunteers. A large proportion of those detained are from the Middle East, and some have very little English making them one of the most vulnerable groups in the daunting, complex and often confusing world of the detention centre. Arabic speaking volunteers will therefore be hugely useful in helping us understand their needs.
Friends Of Refugees
Whilst these roles with Friends of Refugees are not working directly with refugees, the charity provides advice and support services to refugees living temporarily or permanently in Bedford and the surrounding area as well as worldwide and there will be opportunity to become involved in this work.
We need a Head of Donations who believes in our mission to oversee a team of experienced volunteers to collect, quality check and pack clothing and other donations. They will also be able to work with social media team to publicise aid requirements and answer queries regarding donations. Also being able to co-ordinate with other charities and networks to deliver aid to refugee settlements across Europe
Treasurer (a Trustee-designate role)
We need a Treasurer who believes in our mission, who can manage our financial compliance and help us find the funding needed to deliver it. We are registered for Gift Aid, and anticipate having a very small payroll and having a membership scheme collecting regular small fees from loyal supporters.
Use the links above to find more details on a particular role. If you would like to register an interest in the opportunity, then create an account on the Simply Connect volunteering platform and the group will contact you to follow through. Any problems, or if you simply wish to talk more generally about volunteering, give us a call on 01234 354366 or email to volunteering@cvsbeds.org.uk. We are here to help you.
