Show you care: Families

10 February 2022

If you are interested in helping out families in your own community, who need support due to the circumstances they are dealing with, take a look at the opportunities we currently have listed on our Simply Connect Volunteering Platform.

This is one of a series of posts on different ways to show that you care for others in your community.

FACES

Cherry Pies Monday Family Support Group

We require volunteers who are parents themselves or can demonstrate that they have experience with working with children and/or families, or those who are willing to learn and are over 18. FACES support local children and families faced with difficult issues via a range of quality-tested services and family support groups, many led by the team of dedicated volunteers.

Domestic Abuse Support Volunteers

Volunteers may have a particular interest in supporting victims of domestic abuse or general family support. Volunteers will provide practical and/or emotional support to a family depending on the family’s needs. Volunteers are given a choice of which situations they feel confident to support and are given full consultation, support and supervision in this role. The role involves providing tailored support to a family in their own home once a week for 2-3 hours.

Family Support - Robin's Nest

We are looking for volunteers to help at our Tuesday morning family support group. The FACES family support groups are for families who do not usually access other services for a variety of reasons. The aim of the groups is to reduce social isolation for children and parents, promote school readiness, help with child development.

Family Support Groups - Little Acorns

We require volunteers who are parents themselves, or can demonstrate that they have experience with working with children and/or families or are willing to learn. There will be an 8 week training course.  You will be offering support, information and advice, befriending and mentoring and providing a range of other help.

Family Support Volunteer - Home Visiting

Volunteer for our Together @FACES Project - We are always looking to recruit home-visiting volunteers who are parents themselves or have experience of working with children and/or families to support families with children aged 0-19 and who are struggling to cope for one reason or another. Challenges may be parental or child ill health, mental health, social isolation, practical support, support with child development - there is no typical family that we support. Support is tailored to a family's needs.

FamilyLine

FamilyLine Volunteer

FamilyLine provides a range of support to adult family members via telephone, e-mail, text and webchat. As part of your role you will use your skills and life experience to help families, refer service users for additional FamilyLine support including befriending and counselling and support family members to manage issues such a child behaviour and wider family relationships more effectively.

Home-Start Central Bedfordshire

Home Visiting Volunteer Central Beds

You would visit a family in their own home once a week for a couple of hours. How you would help them is down to the family itself. The duties range from just talking and listening to more practical support such as meal planning and cooking, reading to the children, going to the local park or finding out about local services.

Use the links above to find more details on a particular role.  If you would like to register an interest in the opportunity, then create an account on the Simply Connect volunteering platform and the group will contact you to follow through.  Any problems, or if you simply wish to talk more generally about volunteering, give us a call on 01234 354366 or email to volunteering@cvsbeds.org.uk.  We are here to help you.
