Show you care: Community
If you are interested in helping out people in your own community who are in need of some support, take a look at the opportunities we currently have listed on our Simply Connect Volunteering Platform. Whether it is befriending, helping with food banks or other community projects, there are lots of options for you to choose from.
This is one of a series of posts on different ways to show that you care for others in your community.
Centre for All Families Positive Health (CAFPH)
CAFPH are setting up a cultural food bank in Luton, to cater for the needs of the client group we predominantly serve. We are recruiting volunteers to the variety of roles that are required to run the food bank successfully. If you can offer help with driving, stacking supplies, serving customers or basic administration, your help would be appreciated. Refugees and assylum seekers would be most welcome.
Healthwatch Central Bedfordshire
We could not operate successfully without our wonderful group of volunteers - including our young volunteers aged 13-25. Whether it’s accompanying us at outreach events, attending meetings on behalf of Healthwatch or helping out in the office we will be able to find something that suits you.
IMPAKT Housing and Support
In this role you will be assisting customers to access the community larder in Bedford whilst maintaining food hygiene standards when displaying and distributing food. You will also assist with loading and unloading of food and ensuring the larder is clean and visually appealing to customers, including creating displays.
Bedford Linking Lives Befriending Service
Based in Bedford, our Befriending Service Volunteers contact/visit people who are aged 18+ in need of a listening ear and friendship. Initially contact will be through weekly telephone calls. Eventually a weekly 1-1 visit in the home is the aim and, when a good relationship has been established, support may be offered to help people to integrate into other activities in the local community.
The Safer Luton Partnership
The Safer Luton Partnership have some exciting new opportunities within our youth and community projects with the possibilities of leading into employment. As a youth mentor, you can be that positive role model to a young person who needs that vital support and guidance. These are flexible roles and full training and support will be provided.
Our team has provided a listening ear and emotional support to those experiencing bereavement, mental health difficulties, substance misuse and domestic violence victims, and through our SOS vehicles we have been able to transport many individuals to hospital admissions, when further treatment has been required. This in turn has helped to relieve the pressure on the ambulance service.
Use the links above to find more details on a particular role. If you would like to register an interest in the opportunity, then create an account on the Simply Connect volunteering platform and the group will contact you to follow through. Any problems, or if you simply wish to talk more generally about volunteering, give us a call on 01234 354366 or email to volunteering@cvsbeds.org.uk. We are here to help you.
