Show you care: Neighbours

09 February 2022

If you are interested in helping out those in your own neighbourhood, take a look at the opportunities we currently have listed on our Simply Connect Volunteering Platform.

This is part one of a series of posts on different ways to show that you care for others in your community.

Ampthill & Flitwick Good Neighbours

Be a Good Neighbour In Ampthill, Flitwick, Maulden, Steppingley, Westoning & Millbrook

As a Good Neighbour volunteer you can utilise any skills you may have including but not limited to shopping / running errands, small jobs (e.g. changing light bulbs), dog walking/other pet care (e.g. during holidays/illness) or just sitting with someone.

In particular, the following volunteers are currently sought:

Befrienders

If you are a people person with good communication skills then a befriender is the role for you. Volunteer Befrienders spend a few hours each week visiting local residents that are feeling lonely or isolated.

Coordinator

The Coordinator will hold the scheme's mobile phone on a rota basis with other volunteers and when a phone call is received from a local resident it is the Coordinators task to match the type of help requested with the type of help local volunteers have offered.

Driver

We are looking for drivers to give as little or as much time as they can per week, to help our clients to shop, attend doctor/hospital/clinic appointments or collecti prescriptions or to run other errands for them.

Dunstable Good Neighbours

Dunstable Good Neighbours Volunteer

Provide support to the elderly and lonely people of Dunstable, this is likely to involve things such as: friendly visits or phone calls to those who are lonely or isolated; occasional lifts to the doctors, shops etc; occasional help with small tasks around the house or garden; assistance with form filling.

Eaton Bray Good Neighbours

Call Handler

Hold our mobile phone for two to four days per month. Answer calls and message volunteers to find someone who can help the client. Training can be given and it's usually finding someone to run an errand or arranging a driver for an appointment.

Volunteer Driver

Use your own car to take clients by pre-arrangement to local health appointments, shops, hairdressers etc. Clients reside in Eaton Bray, Edlesborough, Northall or Tottenhoe and are without their own transport; most are elderly.

Houghton Regis Helpers

Volunteer Community Carer

Provide the residents of Houghton Regis with short term help such as transport, domestic support and household assistance, through local volunteers – and to encourage sustainability, self-help and friendship within the local community.

Use the links above to find more details on a particular role.  If you would like to register an interest in the opportunity, then create an account on the Simply Connect volunteering platform and the group will contact you to follow through.  Any problems, or if you simply wish to talk more generally about volunteering, give us a call on 01234 354366 or email to volunteering@cvsbeds.org.uk.  We are here to help you.
