Volunteering Tips for Trustees

01 November 2021

Our top tips this month are for those of you who are thinking of becoming a trustee.    It is a rewarding role and one in which you will have a lot of influence. So here are the things we think are important:

      1. Choose a charity or organisation that is doing work that you can be passionate about.

      2. Be satisfied that your values and principles are in line with those of the organisation you apply to.

      3. make sure you know what your duties will be - here is a good general guide.

      4. Remember you will be working as part of a team.

      5. Be confident in what you can bring to the table: boards are looking for diversity, people with the lived experience as their service users as well as people with specific business expertise in finance, human resources, secretarial skills.

      6. Enjoy the role – it should bring you the satisfaction of giving back to society, widen your opportunities and networks, and give you the chance to influence and make a difference in something you are passionate about.
