10 minutes of community in Luton
The new '10 minutes of community' campaign invites Luton residents to do 10 minutes of volunteering each week.
This could be something as simple as picking up litter or weeding whilst you are out and about – outside your home, on the school run, at the playground etc. Or it could be something specific to the character of your own particular community.
The idea is to instil some civic pride back into neighbourhoods and it is hoped to map everyone’s 10 minute actions to produce a graphic of where community activity is taking place and to link people together where possible, because 5 people doing 10 minutes together gets more done than 5 individuals doing 10 minutes separately.
Before and after pictures can be shared on social media, using the hashtags #10MinutesOfCommunity and the area where volunteering took place.
The campaign will run through August and September, and should deliver changes in neighbourhoods with the build up to a week of action in the Great Big Green Week (18-26 September).
It is an easy way to get involved in a bit of microvolunteering - as and when you can spare the odd 10 minutes. So, start now, and share your pictures with #10minutesofcommunity.
