ERTA Call for Volunteers

15 February 2022

Volunteers wanted for English Regional Transport Association (ERTA)

“as a team we can aim for turning the tide from fragmented railways to route protection, year-on-year rail reopenings agendas; cutting congestion, emissions and waste by re-railing people, places and glaring gaps in the national rail network of a local, conventional type.”

ERTA is calling for more people to become their “reliable assistant volunteers”.  Their work across regions needs a growth of volunteers to help them better service existing commitments and expand their efforts.

Tasks that you will be able to help with include leafleting, research, putting together cases for advancing projects, marketing, assisting at forums.

These are the opportunities with ERTA on our Simply Connect platform:

Chairman’s General Assistant  (Bedford)

There is lots of scope in this role from administration tasks to mentoring and from practical DIY to campaigning.  You will need a full driving licence.

Fundraiser (Bedfordshire)

The role will involve researching and applying for grants, exploring Crowdfunding and other fund-raising methods, and helping with stalls and publicity.

IT Assistant (remote)

You will be conversant with web design, assist with trouble-shooting and produce digital diagrams in png. format or CAD design and could help with the Ebay site. There are plenty of interesting projects to get involved with.

Leafleteer (Bedfordshire, MK & Northampton)

You will follow safety procedures, and at your own convenience help to distribute leaflets to local people across the region.

Local Government Liaison Officer (Bedfordshire)

The role is to promote the organisation and maintain and update the membership list and social media accounts.

Project Officer (Ampthill)

Someone is needed to coordinate or head up the campaign/project for re-opening the railway station at Ampthill which closed some 50 years ago . Building a team, doing the homework, growing a network of support grassroots upwards and amongst professionals and elected representatives to orchestrate for moving the project forward to delivery.

Secretary (across Bedfordshire, Milton Keynes and Northampton)

You will produce and distribute agendas for meetings and take minutes for committee and public meetings; book meeting venues and write official letters as agreed by Committee.

Social Media Officer (remote)

The role is to maintain Social Media accounts and post news relevant to ERTA. You will be requesting support and volunteers and recruiting new members and support.

Stall Assistant (Bedfordshire)

You will be seeking opportunities for stalls, recruiting teams to cover and man stalls, collecting stock and raising funds and recuperating any outlay costs.

Technical Support Officer (through Bedfordshire and beyond)

Someone is needed to be on hand at events such as conferences, to set up equipment and help support the smooth running of events for speakers.

Track-Bed watchers  (Bedford-Northampton line)

The volunteer is asked to monitor and gather evidence by taking photographs of the old track-bed running between Bedford and Northampton.

Westminster Liaison Officer  (locally and Westminster)

You will foster good relationships with English Regional MP’s and ensure that they have all relevant and up to date information. You will seek to set up meetings at Westminster, inviting the MP’s support and participation.  The role also involves growing general support for ERTA, recruiting new members and encouraging people to speak up for ERTA.  This is a trustee role and you will also serve on the Executive Committee.
