Show you care: Carers

10 February 2022

If you are interested in helping out and providing support for people in your community who are caring for others in an unpaid capacity , take a look at the opportunities we currently have listed on our Simply Connect Volunteering Platform.

This is one of a series of posts on different ways to show that you care for others in your community.

Carers in Bedfordshire

Carers in Bedfordshire support carers of all ages who are looking after others because of their disability of condition. They run events and activities and provide information and support.  The opportunities they have for you to support them in what they do are:

Counsellor

We offer short-term person-centred counselling for carers - face to face, by phone or video. We are looking for counsellors who will gently encourage carers to talk about what’s going on for them and help identify how to change or manage things in a different way going forward.

Dementia telephone befriender

You’ll use and develop your listening skills and interpersonal skills to develop rapport. This is an interactive way to learn about the experiences of carers and people with dementia. This will particularly suit you if you want to gain experience in a health or social care setting or have worked in a similar setting previously. You'll be part of a team in a trusted local charity.

Early Responder

Our team of Early responders listen to carers who register with us to find out what support they need. Your help in working out what help they need, using our assessment method, will assist us to identify those carers in most need and those who can benefit from our groups, training and other programmes. This volunteer role is ideal for anyone who has a background in telephone support or information, advice or guidance.

Memory Navigator

You will be providing telephone support 2 hours per week and proactively calling people with dementia, people with memory concerns, and also carers of people with these conditions. These calls will be to signpost callers to various services, offer information, support and listen. You will be required to take information to register callers and make review calls to those who are already registered. You will enter basic details of the caller and their call onto our database.

Use the links above to find more details on a particular role.  If you would like to register an interest in the opportunity, then create an account on the Simply Connect volunteering platform and the group will contact you to follow through.  Any problems, or if you simply wish to talk more generally about volunteering, give us a call on 01234 354366 or email to volunteering@cvsbeds.org.uk.  We are here to help you.
