Data Protection and Changes in Law

20 December 2017

Data protection law is changing from May 2018. You may have heard of GDPR and you may be wondering how it will affect your organisation.

Data protection legislation covers how you keep personal data about employees, volunteers, service users, members, supporters and donors. Whilst there are some changes coming with the new legislation, the basic principles remain the same. It’s a good time to look at your current policy and procedures to make sure they are fit for purpose.

NCVO KnowHowNonProfit website has some useful links and well-written guidance for charities on how to prepare for GDPR.

Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) is the regulator for data protection and privacy law. The ICO website includes a self-assessment toolkit which is suitable for small and medium sized organisations.

If you’ve read the Know How Non Profit guidance and used the toolkits, and you still have questions, please contact us.
