Opportunities to engage with healthcare, psychology or speech and language therapy

If you are interested in working with people in a caring and supportive role, and have an afternoon or morning available during the week, opportunities await you at Headway Bedford.

 

Headway is a rehabilitation centre for people who are recovering from an acquired brain injury following accidents or medical conditions. We are urgently seeking additional volunteers to assist our clients with the re-learning of cognitive, communication and physical abilities either in group or 1:1 sessions running weekly on Monday to Thursday.


If you are interested in working with people in a caring and supportive role to help encourage them with this enablement process to increase their abilities, confidence and self-esteem, and you have a morning or afternoon available during the week, we would love to hear from you.  Anyone interested in gaining experience in healthcare, psychology or speech & language therapy would also find this volunteering role of particular interest.

Cognitive Sessions – Monday, Tuesday, Thursday (am or pm sessions)

The main purpose of this volunteer role is to work with clients either within a group or individually to complete a variety of activities within cognitive sessions.  All session activities have a purpose and are set by the co-ordinator according to a framework to address all areas of cognition i.e. memory strategies, processing information, attention, visual processing and executive functions.  The role is to assist / support / enable the client to complete the work.

Conversation sessions – Wednesday (am or pm session)

The main purpose of this volunteer role is to work with clients within a small group or 1:1 to complete a variety of activities related to speech therapy and practice.  All session activities have a purpose and are set by our Speech Therapist according to a framework to address all areas of speech and language therapy i.e. conversation strategies and total communication (gesture, drawing, writing). The role is to assist / support / enable the client to complete the work.  This is an ideal upcoming opportunity for those looking for a career in speech and language therapy and will be on vcconnect very shortly.
